Photography Tips for ATV and Dirt Bike Race Photos

QUICK ANSWER

For great race photos, keep the sun behind the camera, shoot in the morning or evening, keep the ISO low (100 to 200) in bright sun, use Sport mode and Burst mode for fast action, and capture the rider's full body from the front, isometric and side. To print a photo on a custom shirt, submit the original file, not a screenshot.

If you plan to have someone take your photo, the photographer should follow a few guidelines so you get the most out of your photo shoot. When you submit a photograph to be used in a design, you should meet as many of these guidelines as possible.

How should a photographer shoot a rider?

  • The sun should be behind the camera.
  • The lighting is best in the morning and evening.
  • When it's sunny, keep the ISO setting low (100-200). This will reduce graininess.
  • If possible, use Sport mode on the camera. This will reduce blur from the fast movement.
  • Capture the rider's full body in each shot.
  • The three common shot positions are front, isometric and side. Try to get some of each angle so you have variety to choose from.
  • To capture action shots like wheelies and jumps, use Burst mode on the camera. This will capture multiple shots back to back, and ensures you capture the action.

How should I submit a photo for a custom shirt?

  • Submit the original photograph. Even if it is one from our collections, you should download it and submit it with your order request form.
  • Screenshots and images downloaded from social media can be very poor quality and might not be suitable for enlarging onto a shirt. It's best to have the original or one that was downloaded from a file sharing app like Google Photos. If you aren't sure or you only have poor quality images, there are steps we can take to upscale (increase the quality) that might work. Send in what you have and we can tell you if it will work or not.
  • Busy backgrounds with varying lights and shadows might be hard to remove but we will do our best.
